X-Mas, people! X-Mas… X-MAS!!
One of the funniest videos I’ve ever seen.

Added later (new! (actually I first saw this in 8th grade and the Antarctica and dark side part have still stuck with me in my brain)):
“I think a lot of people think that our band is here to party… We’re actually here to stop people from partying”

Andres Segovia vs. Jimi Hendrix

Guitar, Music

Posted December 24, 2006 at 1:22 am by Severed Head

Who is the best guitarist, in your opinion?
Also, your opinion is not allowed to include any of the following:
Van Halen, Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen, or Petrucci
Definitely no Metallica either
Or Clapton
Other accpetable answers: Paul Gilbert, Mattias IA Eklundh, Bumblefoot, Buckethead, Brian May
But seriously, I think it really comes down to Segovia vs. Hendrix. I mean Segovia basically invented all the classical techniques that are used today and Hendrix basically invented all the modern rock techniques we used today plus a bunch more that are still a bit too tricky for the time being. Also, Segovia rocked at transposing.
I think, after hearing an absolutely STUNNING version of Machine Gun today by Hendrix (live 12/31/69-anyone have this? (it is even mentioned in the comments of that youtube video)) on the radio, I think I am going to choose good ol’ Jimi. There were just so many times when I was doing something and I’d just have to stop and go “Jesus Christ I wish I could make my guitar sound like that, but no matter how hard I try right now, I can’t”… He just has not only the technique and musicality, but he’s got a great musical ear and a uniqueness unlike anyone else. Nowadays “TECHNIQUE” means “FUCKING SHREDDING SPEED LET’S PLACE A BUNCH OF EIGHTH NOTES IN A ROW OR PLAY ARPEGGIOS IN AS MANY WEIRD WAYS AS POSSIBLE!!!!!111″… Not ungodly creative things that Hendrix uses. Weird bends. Teeth playing. Behind the head. Feedback manipulation. Stuff that was unheard of back then. Also, he’s got some fucking SOUL! You can really feel that stuff. He is able to paint these beautiful landscapes with the guitar in some of his longer songs like Voodoo Chile or 1983. Also, unlike the whole arpeggio obsession that everyone seems to have, he takes a really unique way to playing every single chord. Look at Little Wing. Every chord in there is twisted and mangled to make it practically unrecognizable as an actual chord. But the progression is so obvious.
But Segovia is able to play up to 2 or 3 musical melodies and lines at once. Tell me what is not amazing about that. And using different dynamics with each line. Sure it is classical music and it won’t get you to dance around or anything, but to me, classical music says a lot more about the soul than any other kind of music. Being able to write it, or interpret another piece, like a symphony or something, and to be able to play that on one instrument, is so talented.
But yeah. Hendrix wins.

My yellow in this case is not so mellow

Fun, Guitar, Life, Music

Anger he smiles, towering in shiny metallic purple armour
Queen Jealousy, envy waits behind him
Her fiery green gown sneers at the grassy ground

Blue are the life-giving waters taken for granted,
They quietly understand
Once happy turquoise armies lay opposite ready,
But wonder why the fight is on

But they’re all bold as love, yes, they’re all bold as love
Yeah, they’re all bold as love
Just ask the axis

My red is so confident that he flashes trophies of war and
ribbons of euphoria
Orange is young, full of daring,
But very unsteady for the first go round
My yellow in this case is not so mellow
In fact I’m trying to say it’s frigthened like me
And all these emotions of mine keep holding me from, eh,
Giving my life to a rainbow like you
But, I’m eh , yeah, I’m bold as love
Yeah, yeah
Well I’m bold, bold as love (hear me talking, girl)
I’m bold as love
Just ask the axis (he knows everything)
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Fuck. I love this song. I was in a kind of shit mood today and came home and things just are all of a sudden not so shit. And then I happen to go to Tara’s Xanga, which I rarely go to, to find this song, and everything suddenly is great. This is such a beautiful, amazing song. The chord progression itself is beautiful, but the guitar work is so imaginative and brilliant.
Fuck. The drums too. Make it almost a more heavy kind of song. I definitely bang my head to this one.

I Don't Wanna Grow Up

Fun, Life, Music

Posted December 15, 2006 at 12:05 am by Severed Head

Coming home from an 11 hour shift of pure hell sucks when you come home to people mad at you over stupid gossip shit. Why do I even talk to anyone about fucking anything anymore? You think I would’ve learned.
Anyway, luckily I remembered that I downloaded this Tom Waits stuff and I have to say that Tom Waits’s I Don’t Wanna Grow Up video is pretty awesome, in a number of ways. Whoa! There’s a video for What’s He Building In There? Holy crap. Anyway, that cheered me up. So if you guys are totally looking for something to cheer you up, I must say that Tom Waits’s bright and cheery funny music will always do the trick. Always.

Added:
While I was being a bit sarcastic earlier, there was a certain point I was trying to make that didn’t come through at all. Tom Waits is great at portraying characters and stories and images and whatever. And he’ll create these weird psychopathic freaks or prostitutes or whatever, but really, they are not all that bad people. You see things from their point of view and you see that they do what they can. It’s like he has faith in the human race and shows it in the form of all these outcasts. And when I have completely lost my faith in the human race, his music really helps for whatever reason. It is a very kind of weird way of looking at it all, and I honestly laugh at how silly some of these characters are sometimes, but they could easily be real people.
I don’t know what I’m trying to say exactly. I don’t think I ever do.

Canon in D

Conspiracies, Guitar, Music, Propaganda

wow let’s all look at this ass hole kid on youtube who can kind of play canon in D wow yeah great well LOOK AT THIS! (specifically, at 3:18, when he plays the chord progression to canon I believe in an insanely fast accurate manner) I love how he evolves it into something else too.
Also, to show how different Pablo Gilberto is from everyone else, check him play left handed and do his solo in this big jam by singing (5:59) instead of just showing off and being some weirdo.(The song sucks though.)

Why it is hard to Practise.

Uncategorized

Posted December 10, 2006 at 10:44 pm by Crumb Bandit

The top reasons why its so dang hard to practise every day:

1. Hot chicx do not practise.

2. the Really cool chix do not practise.

3. Cool people don’t tell you how to get good at practising, nor do teachers for that matter.

4. There isn’t much of a reason if you dont have a goal in mind, like making tons of cash or passion fruit tea.

5.  Sub sandwiches make me stop working instantly.

6. Jayleno just Improvises.

7. Top tens do not fit my appitite.

8. I knew a guy that I affectionatly named “tits”

Thats all for now.  Send your suggestions for Healthy appitites and Practise motivation and habits. Thanks.
